- With the establishment of its Recording Laboratory in 1940, the Library of Congress, as occasion presented, has recorded poetry readings of visiting poets, and more recently, has recorded poets unable to visit the Library for that purpose. The earlier unavailability of poetry readings on commercial records, together with the gradual growth of the Archive of Recorded Poetry and Literature, prompted the Library of Congress to prepare and issue records based on this Archive. (...) Successive Consultants in Poetry at the Library of Congress, (...) have contributed their judgement and advice inthe selection of poets and poems to be included in the "Twentieth century Poetry in English" - record series.
